Countdown to M&M

M&M's are like potato chips - no one can eat just one! And I'm not talking about those candy-coated chocolates; I'm talking about Georgia Romance Writers annual Moonlight & Magnolias Conference. The 2011 conference, "The Course of True Love," will be held at the Decatur Hotel & Conference Center September 29-October 2, and I am literally giddy with anticipation.

How do I love thee, M&M? Let me count the ways.
  1. So many inspiring workshops that I seriously need to clone myself so that I don't miss anything
  2. Featured speakers Eloisa James (!) and Karen White (!)
  3. Special craft workshop presenter Leigh Michaels
  4. Agent and editor appointments
  5. The basket raffle and book signing
  6. The Maggie awards ceremony, dinner and dance (it's electric!)
  7. Catching up with old friends and making new connections
You cannot imagine the creative energy in a roomful of writers unless you have spent some time in one; it will keep me fueled for months to come. I will return home with a suitcase full of workshop notes, autographed books, business cards - maybe even a request for my manuscript - and memories to last a lifetime.

Will I see you at M&M? What are you looking forward to most?

Major squee factor! I am so thrilled you get to do this and just a little jealous. If I weren't in the middle of a job hunt, I'd definitely join you. Maybe next year?

Enjoy and tell us all the details!

I'm coming!!! I have attended some RWA nationals but never one more local so this is my first M&M. I have time in the editor/agent pitches and I love to attend workshops. My first Maggies ceremony too!! My main worry..eating alone when there isn't a dinner planned...since I am not from Georgia I'll be there knowing no one. :( Conferences usually fix that though!

I'll be there! I'm meeting 2 of my new crit partners for the first time - one is coming in from North Carolina, and the other from Minnesota! Very excited. :-)

Good luck with the job search, Julee, and DEFINITELY next year. We'll have a ball!

Karen, I have never been to RWA Nationals but folks who have been to both claim that M&M rivals Nationals, so I know you won't be disappointed. And now you know ME, so there will be no possibility that you will have to eat alone. I look forward to meeting you face to face!

That IS exciting, Kendall! I'm looking forward to seeing you, too!

I'm tee totally there! This will be my first "really real" book signing as an author!

Can't wait to meet new friends and see "old" friends this weekend.

Squee!

Kerri

Pam,
It's going to be a lot of fun. Are you pitching? If so, I'll be rooting for you.

Karen,
Friday night GRW members meet in the lobby to connect with non-GRW members and go to dinner. They pick resturants within walking distance (usually). So come down to the lobby. We don't want you eating alone.

Kerri, I can't wait to meet you and get a signed copy of your book. It's gonna be the best conference ever! :-)

Yes, I have pitch appointments, Sia. I need all the luck I can get, LOL! I told Karen about Friday night dinner in a comment on her blog. GRW members are a friendly bunch - no one has to eat alone unless they just want to! :-)

Last year they didn't have as many talks at the same time. Some of them I know for sure I want to see, others I'm torn between two lovers, er, lectures.

Also, I have no idea what to wear. I have some skirts, but it's cold in there! And I want to wear a sari for Saturday night, but I don't really know how to wrap it, or if I can dance in it....

Oh! AND I'm trying to get a first draft done of my novel so I can say I have at least that much done, but new ideas keep popping up that I want to incorporate. Just too much going on right now! GAH!

On the bright side, it was a year ago at the Maggies dinner that I met you!! Celebrating one year of Pam! :D

I'm teaching my first M&M workshop on Friday at 11am. I'm very excited. I promise to hug. I only hug twice a year so get them while there hot! My class is on "Turning the other cheek" or basically how to take criticism and not quit writing! Hope to see some of you there.

I feel your pain, Bee! I am catching up my laundry today, trying to decide what to pack. I will probably take twice as much as I need and figure it out when I get there. Deciding which workshops to attend is a much bigger quandary. Argh! I was on the phone with Lindy this morning and mentioned that it was at the Maggies last year that I met you. We'll be celebrating our anniversary, won't we? Can't wait to see you! <3

Now that I know a hug is included, Nicki, I can't miss your workshop! Besides, that is a pep talk I definitely need. I'm looking forward to it! :-)
